We went to Tunis once. I wanted to go to a bookshop and get some picture books for my son, but gave up. It was too hot and dry. We only stayed in a cafe. Shame. Will try next time!

Here's my prediction for the next time: disappointing bookshops!
Tunis always hot in summer anyways! Thank god i go back to Sousse in holidays, a way cooler! :) About tha coffee shop/restaurant taken in the 1st picture: is that The Panorama?! it looks like it anyway!
Hi, kml. The one in front of the French Gate was good. I went there 5 years ago and got a book of the Little Prince! And サラ, I went to Sousse, too. It was, though, in the evening and didn't see much. Again, will go next time in the daytime!
so bad that you couldn't spend more time in Tunis, a city with rich history.
@kml, I don't agree :). I think that we have good bookshops in Tunisia: Alkitab, Alalamiya, Claire Fontaine, the one near Joumhouriya metro station that I forgot the name...
Dreams, I've been to some of the bookshops (definitely not all) but was truly disappointed by the very limited diversity of books! I guess I have been spoiled by bookshops in other Western/Asian countries. As for rich history of Tunis, it is sad to see it dramatically dwindling and getting cast down to cafes and other superficial corners.
I'm sure dreams knows larger bookshops in other countries, and it is true that there aren't many bookshops in Tunisia, which is shame because I'm a kind of a bookworm, but hey, no country is perfect ;-)
